About the Mission

Founded as a clearinghouse for data rescue efforts, the Data Rescue Project (DRP) focuses on preserving at-risk public information. To streamline and organize the rescue process, DRP grew from a Google Sheet into crowdsourced tools designed to catalog and coordinate data preservation efforts.
The Data Rescue Portal builds upon these foundational efforts, serving as a centralized, user-friendly portal for accessing a diverse array of preserved datasets. It integrates information from many public data rescue efforts, such as DataLumos and more, enabling users to search across institutions and datasets in one place. This consolidation eliminates the need to navigate multiple sources, making critical data more accessible than ever before.
This platform allows users to track rescued datasets, their archival locations, and last modified/download dates. In addition, every dataset is categorized and labeled with its associated agency and organization, allowing for faster and more convenient data access through our search and filtering functionalities.
By fostering collaboration, the Tracker ensures that no effort is duplicated and that all rescued data remains discoverable for future use.
